DIY Chalkboard with Castings from IOD Moulds ... I'm so excited to share this with you guys! I've been wanting to make this old-world style chalkboard for a while now and when Iron Orchid Designs (IOD) designed the NEW Acanthus Scroll mould, I knew it would be perfect for this project.
I bought some chalkboard paint from Dollar General... I know right! I had used other chalkboard paints before and really wasn't all that impressed so I figured I'd give it a try and it worked well but I ended having to do at least three coats and I let it dry/cure for a few days.
I used the IOD Chippy Paint Decor Stamp to add the chipped paint look. The IOD moulds I used for this project included the Acanthus Scroll, Classic Elements, Monarch Butterflies, and Birdsong. When you make castings with IOD Air Dry Clay, you can glue them directly to your project just as soon as you get them out of the moulds. You want to wait a few minutes and let the castings dry a little bit and get a little crust on them and then you can paint them but be sure to use a soft brush so you don't distort your beautiful castings. I let mine dry naturally for a few days because I had to wait for my chalkboard paint to cure. In the photo below, you can see the castings laid out on some waxed paper.
Today, on Facebook, I did a live video and we completed our DIY Old-World, Chippy Paint chalkboard... I LOVE it! It's a versatile accessory that expresses vintage chic perfectly!
